WILLIAM HENDERSON (1796-18??)
|
William Henderson (1796-18??) would be my great great great grandfather on my father's side. What I know about him so far I have learned from Mrs. Bernice Crane and her book Alabama Kinfolks Crane Henderson King McNew Sutterlin researched and compiled by Bernice and Gene Crane 1997. Elsewhere on this web site I have shown a picture of Mrs. Crane who I visited in 2005. |

On the way to the Henderson family reunion of March 29, 2009, we spent some time in Morristown, Tennessee with our friend Jerry McDuffie. While in Morristown, we made a side trip to Knoxville where I was able to visit the Knox County Archives on March 24, 2009 in downtown Knoxville. I was able to obtain a copy of the marriage bond between William Henderson and Matilda King. Click here to see a copy of the bond and the strong proof of the relationship with William Y. King. Matilda was born in 1804 in North Carolina. Mrs. Crane did not have their death dates. The bondsman who signed for their marriage was William Y. King. Mrs. Crane believes that William King was Matilda's brother...William Y. King married Peggy Lavimore on June 19, 1817 in Knox County and he was found in 1830 Roane County, TN census. His age would make him a brother. While on the same trip where I was able to obtain the copies of the marriage bond between William Henderson and Matilda King, I spent some time in the Tennessee Room of the Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection located on Gay Street in downtown Knoxville. I did not allot enough time so I will have to go back as I need to do additional research on Roane County, Tennessee. I was able to look at the Tax Lists Vol. 1-3 1822-1840, Bailey 976.87 Roane McClung Historical Collection. In that book, I was able to find mention on page 126 Captain Taylor Co, Tax List for 1825 and I found William Y. King and William Henderson. William Y. King had land and William Henderson did not. In another book, McClung Historical Collection Roane County TN, 1830 and 1840 Federal Census and Tax Lists, Bailey, reference is made to the 1830 census showing Richard King, William Y. King and William Henderson as being in the 1830 census in Roane County Tennessee. I have the 1830 census form. Click on the link below and look for the picture album Census Records. The album will have a picture of a Census Record on the cover. Click on the cover and you can view various census records. Remember to click on each record to see a description of that record. Also there are multiple pages within the album. In this case you will see the 1830 Census showing Wm Henderson. You will also see some of the caveats I have had to introduce to analyze the record. http://www.burjoski.org/photos/index.cgi Also, according to a conversation Mrs. Crane had with EDD Henderson when she first began her research, EDD said Hiram Henderson and William King were cousins. Mrs. Crane also believes Thomas M. King was Matilda's brother. Mrs. Crane refers to the King families later in her book.
