JAMES PRICE HENDERSON (1879-1934)

James Price Henderson was the second son of Elijah and and Elizabeth Henderson. He was my grandfather on my fathers side of the family.  It is pretty obvious from the scanty information that Mrs. Crane provided in her book that not a lot of information about James Price and his family is known in Alabama and Georgia by descendants, relatives and ancestors.   Elsewhere on this web site I have shown a picture of Mrs. Crane who I visited in 2005.

She has it listed thusly:

2. James Price "Jim" Henderson was born October 2, 1879 and died June 17, 1934. He was married on April 25, 1913 to Hattie Louise Fuller who was born March 27, 1899 and died January 7, 1990. He is buried in Fellowship Cemetery, Wiamauma, Florida. They had Henry, Theodore, Daisy, and Mamie.

Additional information I have entered about James Price and Hattie and their family has been sent to me by Betty Joyce Henderson Wunderlich who is my aunt. She had detailed information about James Price Henderson's children, her own children as well as information on the Fuller side. The Fuller side is addressed elsewhere on this website. Click here for Information on the Fuller Family.

I also received information from Linda Mason Jackson about the Fullers as well as the goldmine document of Bernice and Gene Crane. Linda's grandmother's brother was my grandfather and my grandmothers sister was her mother.

Continuing my research, James and Hattie moved their family to Florida between 22 Dec 1924 and 15 December 1926. I found the family in the 1930 Census living in Florida in Marion County District 21 near the community of Linadale. Linadale was situated very closely to the intersection of Highway 42 and 450. Marion County begins just a few hundred yards west of Altoona and I remembered my dad telling me that the family had lived north of Highway 42.  I will discuss some of that information later.

James Price "Jim" Henderson was born October 2, 1879 in Cherokee County, Alabama and died June 17, 1934, in Hillsborough County, Florida (Wiamauma).  James Price Henderson married April 25,1913 Hattie Louise Fuller daughter of James Alfred and Louisa O'Della Norris Fuller. I will have more to say later on the Norris family. Hattie was born in March 27, 1899 in Cherokee County Alabama and died January 7, 1990 in Plant City Hillsborough County, Florida. James Price is buried in Fellowship Cemetery. Click here to see a picture of the James Price Henderson grave marker.   The Fellowship Cemetery is located on Highway 674 between Fort Lonesome and Wimauma between Ccc Road and Owens Lake Road.  Click here to see an image of the cemetery from 2,000 ft. Hattie Louise Fuller Henderson is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Plant City Hillsborough County, Florida.  Click here to see a picture of the Hattie Louise Fuller Henderson grave marker.  Memorial Park Cemetery is located just north of Interstate 4 and west of Highway 39 in the northern part of Plant City Florida.   Click here to see an image of the cemetery from 2,000 ft.

In 1917 and 1918, approximately 24 million men living in the United States completed a World War I draft registration card. These registration cards represent approximately 98% of the men under the age of 46. The total U.S. population in 1917-1918 was about 100 million individuals. In other words, close to 25% of the total population is represented in these records.  I was able to find the draft registration card of James Price Henderson.  Click here to see an image of his draft registration card. James Price listed his residence as Lyerly, Georgia which is in Chattooga County, Georgia and just across the state line from northern Cherokee County, Alabama. He registered on September 12, 1918.  His  wife was listed as Hattie Henderson and they had two children.  In 1918, that would have been Theodore my father and Daisy, my Aunt.

James Price and Hattie had the following children: Mildred Henderson, James Elijah Henderson, Theodore Roosevelt Henderson, Daisy Violet Henderson, Mamie Louise Henderson, Henry Ford Henderson, Unknown Henderson, James D. Rockyfellow Henderson, Wilma Marie Henderson, Alma Ruth Henderson, and Betty Joyce Henderson.

Click here to see the 1880 census of DeKalb County, Alabama!  In this census Elijah and Elizabeth have married and are living nearby Elizabeth's parents. They have two sons Nathan 2 years old and my grandfather James Price Henderson who is 7/12 of a year old.  The 1890 census was a bust for most anyone doing genealogical research as most of the census was destroyed due to a fire.  I have not been able to find James Price Henderson in the 1900 census.  He would have been 21 years old and probably lived away from the homestead. I will continue looking for him in the 1900 census.  In the 1910 census, Elijah and Elizabeth with some of the remaining family have moved to northeast Cherokee County in what is listed as the Cedar Springs District.  My grandfather James Price Henderson is living with them but it appears from the way the enumerator listed him, he is not part of the nuclear family.  Click here to see the 1910 census of Cherokee County, Alabama!  The 1920 census was interesting in that my father Theodore Henderson first shows up.  Click here to see the 1920 census of Cherokee County, Alabama!   I had done a thorough search of the 1930 census in Lake County Florida and had been unable to find James Price and his family.  Then on a hunch I looked at Marion County and presto there they were in the Linadale district of Marion County.  There was community called Linadale years ago and now about all that is there is a cemetery.  Click here to see the 1930 census of Marion County, Florida.
