Jim and Barbara's Genealogy Trip Day Ten-September 17

On Day ten we were back in the United States and were staying with Russell and Elaine Patrick in North Tonawanda New York.  We first met Elaine when I was in the Air Force and stationed at England AFB in Alexandria Louisiana in 1960.  Elaine was married to Thomas Montgomery and Tom and I were weather observers.  Barbara came to visit me in Louisiana and she stayed with Tom and Elaine while she was there.  Elaine and Tom have since parted ways and Elaine married Russell Patrick.  They met at the Villages in central Florida. Thank you Russell and Elaine for your hospitality!

In the thumbnail above, Russell Patrick is working with his daughter Tina and son-in-law at the Farmers Market in North Tonawanda where they sell cheese.  We bought a large pastrami there and brought it back for Dennis.  He says it was excellent.  Click on the image to see a larger view.

In the afternoon Russell and Elaine took us on a tour of Buffalo and Niagara Falls (Canada and United States).  For those of you who enjoy Buffalo Wings, pictured above is a thumbnail of the home of the Buffalo Chicken Wings, the Anchor Bar. We crossed back into Canada from Buffalo at the Peace Bridge over the Niagara River.  Russell directed us along the scenic Niagara Blvd on the Canadian side and we drove north to the Niagara Falls Ontario Canada.  Click on the image above to see a larger view of the falls.

Another part of the Niagara Reservation State Park is Goat Island.  You can take the tour bus that circles the park and crosses over into Goat Island.  We first went to Terrapin Point on Goat Island and then we rejoined the tour bus and got off at a footbridge that allows you to cross over parts of the Niagara River and onto Three Sisters Islands.  It was pretty awesome being out in the River and seeing  the huge amount of water rushing to the Canadian Falls. After leaving Three Sisters Islands we again took the tour bus and went to a departure point where we could walk onto Luna Island which is on the Crestline of the American Falls.  On the way to our destination the bus driver asked me to lead the tour.  Click on the image to see a larger view.
