Serafyntsi is in the Ivano-Frankivse Oblast (Administrative region) 4-5 km e-s-e of Horodenka.  Population as of 1970 was 3,000.  Horodenka in 2001 had a population of 9,794. Horodenka known as a Pokutia town was first mentioned in late 12th-century.  By the 15th century under Polish rule, it was a trade center.  In 1668 it was granted the rights of Magdeburg law. Under Austria (1772-1918) and Poland (1919-1939) it was a county town.  Today its largest plants are a sugar refinery and a liquor distillery.
